Who is Smiling Pug?

"I am a happy pug therefore.... I am a smiling pug"! My mum is called Smilingpug... after me! Because of her love of animals and nature, she is a Buddhist and a vegetarian (thank god). She is most inspired by the Dalai Lama. We live on the West Coast of Canada and I share my home with my two older feline sisters Tika and Kizzy and my NEW little brother Sam Cooper who... is all the way from MidSouth Pug Rescue in Tennessee!! I am 11 and I don't walk to well anymore, but that doesn't mean I don't get around! Welcome to my blog.

Green Stubby Report - Bottles and Plastic

Hello everypuggy,

Today is that time again for my Green Stubby Reports.
Let's make Stubby proud today by discussing bottles and plastic.
I was snoozing away in my bed when all of a sudden Mum dropped this bag near my bed and woke me ups announcing it was time to go to the recycling depot here in Burnaby.

We keep all things that can be recycled and every so often when we have lots we takes a trip to drop it off.
Today we tooks our accumulated collection of plastic bags and our drinking containers.

Ok Mum load up the car.....  I am ready to goes!

The first stop is the "return-it" place for our drinking containers.
We pulled up and unloaded our stuff from the trunk and went insides.

Here I am out f ront with our blue bag filled with containers.

Inside we have to use red plastic cartons to separate the different types of drinking containers. The lady that works there is really nice and I got a few pets in!
I was in charge of sorting the juice cartons.
Anything under 1 litre in size you gets a 5 cents back and if it is over 1 litre you
gets 20 cents back.

(This amount is what yous is charged for when you initially buy the beverage. When you return the container yous gets that money backs.)

Let me check the bag.... yup, that is it we returned them alls. We gots $3.90 back for returning them all.
(Mmmmmm treat money! BOL)

Then it was down the street to the Burnaby Recycling Station to drop of the plastic bags.

(we don't get any money for returning plastic bags, we just gets "peace of mind" knowing we didn't put them in the landfill)

We aproach the site.

Oh there it is!
(Nothing fancy just a big dusty lot with tons of containers.)

Into the big container goes our bags. Look at all the bags people have dropped offs. Mum has to lift me up so I can reach as I am too shorts.

I check outs around the big dumpster to see how to turn it ons.
Mum says the workers do that when the container is full. They press the button and it compacts all the bags. Kinda likes a garbage truck.

Today we only dropped of plastic bags but you can drop off lots of other stuffs like: fridges, paint cans, paper, metal, used cooking oils, car batteries. The list is endless.

Well I think my work is done heres.
Let's go home for some lunch nows, Mum..... all this recyling has worked up my appetite!

Remember, being a "Green Stubby" makes the world a greener, healthier place.

  1. Hi Green Stubby,

We enoyed your green report today. Thanks for doing your part. My humans do that, too!

    Drools and licks,
    Minnie and Mack

  2. Winston my luvs...thank you for the and Mom loved it! We are happy to see you recycle all your plastic. We have recycled stuffs here but not for plastic bags. Mom said we need to travel some place for you do!

  3. Way to go green! We recycle our plastic bottles too!

  4. Hi Winston! How exciting that you posted your Green Stubby Report on the same day I did my first post in over 5 weeks! Thanks so much for keeping everypug green!

You are so lucky that you get to go to the recycling place. I have never been to one but it looks so cool. Maybe I need to make a trip up to Burnaby!

I think it's so great that you recycle all the drink containers. We don't pay a deposit on them here so many people don't recycle and/or even know they can be recycled. And how cool that you got back treat money! You are one lucky pug!

Okay, so that plastic bag recycling machine looks scary to me but you didn't seem scared. Maybe that's because you're used to it. I like the "peace of mind" reference because that's exactly what it is. You can sleep better at night knowing that you didn't contribute to filling up your landfill. Did you know that less than 5% of all plastic bags get recycled? Do you think that's because people don't get money for doing it?

I love how you can take almost everything to your regional recycling center. I noticed the big sign on the container that said "No styrofoam and no flower pots". You'll be happy to know that some companies are starting to recycle styrofoam and that some organizations sponsor flower pot collections in the spring. I'm not sure which companies recycle flower pots but I'm sure glad they do!

Thanks for keeping it green, Winston!

    Stubby xoxo

  5. Winston
I just love this Green Stubby report on recycling bottles and plastics. I try to help out too. I have never been to where they smash plastic bags. I always wondered what they did with them. You are such a good little helper to your mama.
Stubby would be so proud of you

  6. One more thing Winston
My moms and me cannot get enough of your cuteness. All those photos of you are just adorable.,, and we thank you for this post

  7. Hi Winston!

We love your Green Stubby reports! We recycle too...although Momma says they're rather behind the times in recycling here. We take our plastic, glass and aluminum to a big container in town but it's sad because lots of people dump garbage around it. We take our plastic bags back to the store they came from for recycling too.

And the felt we make our cat toys out of is made from recycled plastic bottles! We only wish there was a place here to recycle steel cans........

  9. Love your Green Stubby Report! What an awesome thing to do and be doing!

  10. Oh thank you Winston!!!! You are such a good helper! You've inspired mom and I to load up all of the old magazines we have and take them to the Abitibi drop box this afternoon! We'll get pics and blog about it too! I'm sure Stubby is proud of you too, dude!!!!

  11. Dear Winston the smiley pug, this here is Anniebelly. I love that you recycle and are teaching other pugs how important this is! Uncky Stubby told me all about yew when he vistied me a few months ago. My mommy is constantly dragging daddy's plastic water bottles out of the trash. Anytime I see daddy throw them away I asks real loudly: MOMMY, WHY DOES DADDY HATE THE EARTH? Someday me and mommy are gonna git him trained.
    love and kissies,

  12. I recycle all the time!!!!! It is so important that we treat the earth with kindness.
PLUS, I get treats for helping.
    Love Noodles
